Thoughts
Our President now has them
Speech today
For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness.
We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus – and
non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from
every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of
civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger
and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall
someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the
world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that
America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.
Kidlet sweater (or what I’ve been working on)
Working on a sweater for the kid (Baby/Child Sweaters and Vest for those on Ravelry)… it’s been taking awhile but since I’m making it bigger hopefully he won’t outgrow it before it’s done)
Project details over on Ravelry.
A bit sad
Dear god,
Sorry to disturb you,
But I feel that I should be heard loud and clear.
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears,
And all the people that you made in your image,
See them fighting in the street,
cause they cant make opinions meet,
About god,
I’ve been trying to avoid watching the coverage of the mess between Israel and Palestine. I think it’s because in a few ways this current conflict is personal. Until the whole Web 2.0 thing it was so easy to stay disconnected from what was going on in another neighborhood or halfway around the world. There is a thread over on one of the Ravelry boards I’m on that has been “sticked” because two members of the group are currently living in the mess. Living in the Be’er Sheva (??? ???) area means that air raid sirens and running into safe rooms have become the “new normal”. And they hate it. They hate that they know they can get 7 kids between 18 months old and 7 years old into the safe room in under a minute. They hate that for their kids this will become the “new normal”… that the kids are growing up with it as normal. They feel worse for the kids over in Palestine. Because they know that it is much worse in Palestine. They all want it to be over. I want it to be over. I hate that there are children (and adults) being injured and killed because of what? Because of something that boils down to religion. Can’t people learn to respect others religious choices?
I see it happening in the United States- where religion played into the Presidental Election- where people are convinced that we are a Christian Nation… people who don’t realize that we have separation of government and state. How much longer until we have a major religious uprising here… all in the name of “G-d”?
A few words from XTC:
Dear god,
Hope you got the letter,
And I pray you can make it better down here.
I dont mean a big reduction in the price of beer,
But all the people that you made in your image,
See them starving on their feet,
cause they dont get enough to eat
From god,
I cant believe in you.
Dear god,
Sorry to disturb you,
But I feel that I should be heard loud and clear.
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears,
And all the people that you made in your image,
See them fighting in the street,
cause they cant make opinions meet,
About god,
I cant believe in you.
Did you make disease, and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
And the devil too!
Dear god,
Dont know if you noticed,
But your name is on a lot of quotes in this book.
Us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look,
And all the people that you made in your image,
Still believing that junk is true.
Well I know it aint and so do you,
Dear god,
I cant believe in,
I dont believe in,
I wont believe in heaven and hell.
No saints, no sinners,
No devil as well.
No pearly gates, no thorny crown.
Youre always letting us humans down.
The wars you bring, the babes you drown.
Those lost at sea and never found,
And its the same the whole world round.
The hurt I see helps to compound,
That the father, son and holy ghost,
Is just somebodys unholy hoax,
And if youre up there youll perceive,
That my hearts here upon my sleeve.
If theres one thing I dont believe in…
Its you,
Dear god.
