Famouse people sightings!

OK just one for today.

I had to take the van (yes, I am such a suburban mom… driving a mini-van… ugh… but looking at a Mini Cooper for the next car) to the dealer today because the air conditioning isn’t working that well… was not fun driving around on Saturday (high of 87… in April… in BUFFALO)… but I tangent. So I go into the waiting room to wait for the rental car people to show up and there is an older woman sitting there reading and her husband was wandering around. He looked slightly familiar then I glanced over at the “car status” computerized sign. It was Van Miller from Channel 4… aka the “Voice of the Bills”. We chatted for a few minutes and he was trying to entertain the boy.

So here is my amusing Van Miller story he told me: back in the 60s he was offered the use of a car by Tunmore Oldsmobile. He went to pick up the car and on the doors was his name in 5″ high letters. He drove then car… at night only when no one could see it (or him). He gave it back to the dealer with a thank you but no thank you- used the excuse of it had been just after the radio payola scandals and he was worried that it could be seen as unethical, etc. Soon after he was driving along and an Olds passes him… with his name on the doors… another call to Tunmore Olds and they took his name off of the car.

He did tell me the boy was cute and got another joke… when he was born he was so ugly the doctor slapped his mother.

And for my other random sightings… was in a coffee shop here in town with a friend… Ani DiFranco came in. About 12 years ago I was in line at Bodo’s bagels in Charlottesville, VA- and Sissy Spacek was in line next to me. Oh and almost forgot- ran into Jewel at the Tops Supermarket (now closed location) before her concert at the Rivera Theater (she opened for Peter Murphy- of Bauhaus fame… and I liked both… I have varied musical tastes)

a small rant… bras

Seriously- how difficult is it for women to actually buy bras? I realize the experience sucks (gotta actually find one’s size then find one that is sort of comfy and keeps the girls in place… sort of).. but after my experiences the past few days.

1. If your 11ish year old daughter is slightly chunky and has boobs for gods sake please buy her a bra and don’t let her walk around in a thread-bare skin tight white t-shirt. There are enough pervs out there and if I’m noticing then the local child molester will.

2. Ditto that for the woman old enough to know better. Being chunky with FFF boobies- white t-shirt and no bra- it’s not pretty. I really did not need to see that at 9:30 this morning while running to the Dollar General (oh god… that sounds so white trash of me… but I needed cheap packing tape to mail some stuff out)… if you have to lift the boobies to zip your pants… buy a bra… please.

Thrift Store finds… R.E.M.

A bit of fun today… was wandering around the Salvation Army on Saturday and found this gem:

R.E.M. Up Box

I was living in the depths of Hell (err Sherman, TX) when this album (err CD) came out. So the chances of Hastings getting this version in was slim to none.

R.E.M. Box 2

I did a little bit of websearching when I came home with it- not sure if it’s a complete set- not very many for sale (the ones that were had poor descriptions) and they were pricey (over $65).

Either way it’s a cool find in the age of digital downloads- with the loss of independent record stores (and what remains are the overpriced poor selection mall stores or the censoring Wal-mart because heaven forbid I be allowed to listen to what I want to… no they have to act like a parent…. oh no, there is a bad word, censor it out) items like this will be harder to find.

I hate wiki’s

I have been totally sucked into the Vintage Sewing Wiki.  I should be scanning the patterns I already have and posting them to my various stores… but no, I’m wandering the wiki and adding patterns there that aren’t already there.

On the plus side, did make a sale over at Specialist Auctions…  now if only I had printer ink (glares at Walgreens).

I want a nap

Only 10:30 in the morning… err 10:49 but I digress.  Boy starts water therapy this afternoon- so drove the husband to work and ran to the peds to get a copy of his immunization records.  On the way home stops at the quasi Tim Hortons (quasi since it shares the space with a gas station mini mart- not the free standing one half a mile away)

So tangent in honor of the Yarn Harlot’s socks in Toronto project I give you sock with Timmy’s cup (and I actually won a free coffee)

Thinking of putting that picture as a project photo into Ravelry

But even after having the coffee I’m still sleepy… going to be a long day- since after water therapy boy has speech therapy (they finally got that started… took long enough)
