Heather Tallchief interview

I missed the interview on Dateline- but thanks to Christine I was able to watch it on-line.

Life in jail
Life in jail

It’s sort of weird to know I went to High School with a felon.  That being said- Sunny was the *last* person I would have expected to fall into a “life of crime”.  Honestly, I could name a number of other girls who I would not have been surprised to end up in jail.  I always had a lot of respect for her because she had the guts to be an individual in the mind-numbing conformity that was Sacred Heart in the 80s.  She was doing what I wanted to be doing (fashion & style wise) but was too insecure to do.

I would need to dig up my HS yearbooks, but I’m pretty sure that one of the photos from her “most wanted” flyer is from our yearbook.

Benefit for Lindsey Freeland

FIGHTING BACK — It’s continuing to be a hard year for the family of Mark Freeland, the local rock music legend who died of cancer back in June. His niece, Lindsey Freeland, 24, a Buffalo State College graduate who majored in interior design and a talented artist in her own right, was diagnosed with Stage 4-B Hodgkins lymphoma in April.

After she underwent two surgeries and four types of chemotherapy, her health coverage has maxed out, and her medical expenses have gone into six figures. To have a chance of bringing her cancer into remission, she needs another six months of treatment.

To help, her family and friends will hold a benefit from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. Friday in the Club Infinity, 8166 Main St., Clarence. Providing music will be The Highway Beautiful, Roxy Loves England, Sleepaway, Athera, Starlit City, Chae Hawk and Mental Floss. There will be food, drinks, dancing, a silent auction and door prizes. Tickets are $15 in advance through Ticketmaster.com or $20 at the door. For information, call Kari Freeland at 982-4865 or ACE4882@aol.com

Hospital accused of knit picking

Article from metro.co.uk

A hospital has banned patients and visitors from knitting – for health and safety reasons.

Managers at Congleton War Memorial Hospital in Cheshire fear that children could be hurt by knitting needles.

Patients’ groups branded the decision ‘pointless and insane’ yesterday, saying people had used a knitting box left out in reception for the last three years without any problems.

Hospital officials said knitting material was still available on request to ‘older people’.

I love the comment about “Older People” since no one under 65 knits… /rolls eyes

A random musings type post.

Been staying fairly busy- the kid’s hips are looking good so no ortho appointment for 6 months.

As a blogger (well sort of… when I remember to post) in Buffalo I feel like I should make mention of Kevin Everett. He suffered a spinal cord injury during Sunday’s home game against Denver. His prognosis is changing constantly- from he may regain some movement in his limbs to death.

Edited to add a few links:

People don’t realize how dangerous football is- from the constant pain and injuries to injuries that could kill. The husband still has physical problems from playing football in high school (playing football in Texas meant playing through the pain… he had a broken collarbone that he played through because of the pressure of the coach).

As a side note- look actual crochet on this blog:

Bad photo (taken via photobooth) and I’ve done a little more on the dish / wash cloth- made from the new Lily Sugar n’ Cream Stripes.

It’s a small world after all

And that that I’ve got that utterly annoying song stuck in everyone’s head (well all 2 or 3 of you that read my blog)…

So T was having PT yesterday. Towards the end of the session A looks at me and does the “Now I know where I know you from.” Now she’s she’s started she has been familiar… couldn’t place where I knew her from. We didn’t go to the same high school… she was a freshman in musical theatre when I was a senior. So yup, we went to college together for a year. Now I’ve changed a little bit- my hair is back to it’s natural color (haven’t colored it since I was preggers)- I was in a black hair phase most of my senior year- wore contacts back then- was hrm… a lot thinner (not that I’m big now… I was lucky to be 100 lbs back then…).

We chatted about various people- told her what her one ex-housemate was up to (I felt a bit weird that I knew Zoe’s website address by heart, but OK not her horror queen site one… had to follow links to find it). She was as surprised as I was to discover Mr. Steve was department chair (everything I learned about cussing I learned from Mr. Steve).

I did threaten to pull out college photos- but not sure if I have many of her class. By my senior year I wasn’t hanging out that much with the department (would go to parties sometimes) but tended to hang out more at BJ’s. Plus as a techie I spent all of my time in the scene shop… or at least it felt that way…
