One thing not to do while knitting

Is to watch the hockey game that has just gone into sudden death overtime. On the plus side, the Sabres manged to win… on the negative side, the city will have to wait until Friday to go into the post loss mourning (unless they manage to get it together)- oh and I kept not paying attention to what I was knitting so I would have to stop and frog. I think that tomorrow on the way to the hospital for T’s C/T I will stop at the bakery started by the late, great Sabre… Tim Horton.

Are you a knitter?

Are you a knitter?

You are a masterful knitter! I don’t know how you got this result, but what the hell… Enjoy your title, and try selling some of your “unvented” patterns- you may make enough for that bundle of qiviut you’ve been drooling over…

Punk Rock Baby

I came across the Punk Rock Baby site via the Blogging Babies site. The concept is cool- but it sounds a bit like Baby Einstein meets contemporary music. The rap meets muzak CD is a hoot. Not sure if I would actually buy them for myself- but they are not as cheesy as Baby Einstein either. But I don’t feel guilty about singing Ramones songs to T now.

Silly cat

[thumb:188:l]

Thinks she is T… or that we got the car seat just for her. And *finally* got coppermine integrated with this.

Early Intervention

I totally zonked on updating this.  We had the evaluators out last week.  T is slightly behind on motor and cognitive skills.  He is on track verbally.  Continue Reading »

Glad I didn’t pay full price for this (the Complete Crochet Set)

Complete Crochet Set: Techniques - Step-by-Step Projects - Materials
Complete Crochet Set: Techniques – Step-by-Step Projects – Materials
I first saw this at my local Barnes & Noble bookstore while looking for:
Stitch N' Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker
Stitch N’ Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker

It looked interesting. It comes with an instruction book, a book of projects, 2 crochet needles and yarn to make a purse. I debated because $30.00 seemed a lot to pay. I was right. I came across it at a local overstock bookstore and figured for $10 it was worth a shot. It doesn’t totally suck, but not worth $30 or whatever it would have been with my B&N card. The needles are cheap feeling & yarn is slinky and difficult to work with (Red Heart Super Saver is easier to work with). I was disappointed because I have:

Reader's Digest Knitter's Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide to the Principles and Techniques of Handknitting (Reader's Digest Series)
Reader’s Digest Knitter’s Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide to the Principles and Techniques of Handknitting (Reader’s Digest Series)
and it is good.

IMHO if you want a book to learn to crochet from, get the Debbie Stoller one, then go to your local craft store and buy a cheap needle and cotton yarn.

Peds and his head.

Went to the Peds today.. T is up to 14lbs, 13oz. Ped is concerned with his head growth so have to go in for a CT scan. I could just be he has a big head, but they want to rule out any other problems (like fluid on the brain).

Harvard article on NICU’s

Preterm babies are born with preterm brains. They need to learn in the
harsh world outside the womb what normal babies learn inside the
comfort of their mothers’ bodies.

Crochet stitches

Uploaded a PDF file of stitches. Warning, it is a bit large… still need to figure out how to make it smaller.

I also added a html version.   It is also somewhat slow loading and I’m still working on some linking.
