Now with video

Working on getting video up. Problem is that with the new camera stuff gets saved as a windvd format so until I can figure out how to make it windows friendly those won’t be posted. The ones that are up are from my camera.

Firefly barbies (and a couple of Kens)

These are great! For those who aren’t in the loop- Firefly was a great series created by Joss When (him of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel fame). These were made by the owners of Serenity Stuff and are amazing.

A funny for a Monday morning.

This morning Tristan’s nurse came in to check on him- well he was naked and grinning away. Apparently his hip splint became attached to the blanket. Tristan managed to not only wiggle out of the split, but his diaper as well. Oh, and he pulled the nasal candela out of his nose and had in his mouth. Needless to say, Sue had a bit of a clean up on her hands- his diaper was wet (normal for babies) but he also had peed during his attempts at freedom- so the blankets and all were a bit damp. Plus side to having the stoma bag- there was no poop for Sue to deal with.

He did have a couple brady/ apnea’s during the night, so they took a few cultures (thinking that the MRSA might be behind it). He’s back on IV antibiotics for that, but we won’t know the results until Wednesday.

eye snot update

Cultures have come back and the kid has MSRA in his eye and nose. He’ll be in isolation until it is kicked. Other then that he’s doing fine- was up 81g.

More info on MSRA (or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).

eye snot

Tristan has a minor eye infection thing- they are also working on cultures from nose/ back of throat. They are giving him an antibotic for the eyes. They also moved him to yet another room. New room is supposed to be more ‘isolated’ (since he has the eye thing, they don’t want to risk passing it on to other babies) *but* since there are some older kids in the room (a couple of babies too young I guess for PICU but older then usual NICU ages) there are a lot more people moving in and out.

Tomorrow starts another rotation of attending/ fellows/ residents. Kids are assigned to color coded teams and every 4 weeks they cycle out docs.

Breastfeeding

OK, he didn’t really take too much from my breast today. The first time he was somewhat sleepy and did not really ‘grasp’ the idea of what he was doing.

At 6pm he was awake and wanting food (he *knew* it was time for food via his tube). He actually started to get the idea of what he was doing. Of course, he is slightly lazy (like all preemies who get everything handed to them) and kept giving the nurse and me the look of “What? I have to work for this??”.
